Why Are We Organic?
According to U.S Dept of Agriculture Produce can be called organic if it’s certified to have grown on soil that had no prohibited substances applied for three years prior to harvest. For many generations dating back to our earliest ancestors, we
have adhered to cultural practices in the cultivation of organic foods. In present time, many of these natural produces are still used and now hold a significant essence in our culture. Back in Nigeria, we use these foods to cook cultural dishes of which the many people eat on a day-to-day basis and are often used as a natural remedy to fight many diseases like Anemia remedy with Ugu (fluted pumpkin) juice, Uda (Negro Pepper) used as anti-inflammatory, anti-malaria and anti-rheumatisms. Also, Uda is used by women for post-partum pain and menstrual cramps. Onugbu (Bitter Leave) juice and chewing it has been testified by people to control diabetes and high blood pressure.
Personal Experience
I spent my youth with my grandmother who did not visit the hospital for any diseases or ailments during her time. She was healthy till the age of 107 before she passed away. The naturally grown produce that my grandparents and many of our ancestors had eaten led to their long-lasting lives. We are proud to bring back those foods that we believe result in the healthier living that improve the longevity of life.
